Carmona was previously a settlement identified as Latag, which was annexed towards the town of Silang upon the latter's development in 1595. The origins of its name are not known. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
